Early 1800’s English Victorian JW Silver Gilt Dagger
Early Victorian Silver Gilt Dagger with the initials JW on the hilt.
As far as I can see the initials JW indicate that this item was made during the reign of Queen Victoria, and made of Sterling Silver, by Joseph Willmore, in Birmingham England in the 1800’s
Joseph Willmore (1773-1885) began his career as a buckle maker but had registered as a maker of silver gilt cutlery in Birmingham England in the 1830s. (Based on the best of my research)
Condition is ‘as shown’ and is in fair to good condition with a very sharp blade. The Cross Guard is a little loose. It has a Deer Antler handle and a Silver Guilt Cap.
The leather Scabbard is in poor condition from age but could be restored and it still has the metal top part where the dagger is inserted. (Put in some slabs of taped wood for protection)
Size is: Full Length 28.5cm. Blade Length is: 17.5cm. Guard 5cm Handle Length is: 10.5cm
Plenty of other photos for you, just ask.
A great antique and piece of English History from the 1800’s.
