M1912 Bayonet & Scabbard plus original leather frog
Manufactured at “Steyr” by the Oesterreichische Waffenfabrik-Gesellschaft (Austrian State Weapons Manufacturing Company).
The ricasso has “OE” over “WG”. Many M1912 rifles and bayonets were confiscated at the beginning of WW1 for an issue to Austro-Hungarian troops.
This knife bayonet was designed for use on Mauser Rifles and was also issued to pair with the Chilean M1912/61 and M1935 Mausers. The barrel ring is just on the hilt.
The M1912 rifle was based on the German Gewehr 98, so the existing M1895 bayonets would not work with the M1912 rifle.
#The makers and inspection marks are:
- RICASSO: “OE” over “WG”: reverse “Chilean Crest”
- CROSSGUARD: “24”
CONDITION: This item is Antique, used, and in very good condition for its age. The wood grips fit tightly but show normal wear around the studs, with a few indents, and marks, the release button is in working order. The blade has a bright finish with grey patina and no pitting. The edge is not sharp and has no dings. The remaining metal on the cross-guards and pommel finish is bright with a little scuff and normal marks. Fitted in the correct original scabbard with oval frog stud, which has a refurbished blackened metal finish, it has no dents and fits tightly together with the bayonet. # Please note: Photographs form part of the description; we can send close-ups which can show up the finer details and condition.
The Frog is original and in overall great condition.
