Together with MESSER MAGAZIN, we held a design competition for a fixed hunting and outdoor knife. We specified these criteria: It should be a flat tang construction; the blade length should not be longer than eleven centimeters; the blade is intended to represent a drop point, spearhead, or skinner shape; the knife should have jaws/hand protection made of brass or nickel silver; the handle scales should be made of a natural material such as deer horn or wood, alternatively micarta can also be used; the scabbard should be made of leather.
From the numerous design suggestions, a jury consisting of the management and the editors of Messer Magazin made a pre-selection of twelve drafts. This was presented to the readers in the 03/2018 issue. The readers chose Olaf Zwätz’s design as the winner. The winning design bears the name: “PUMA ben” and was implemented almost according to the designer’s specifications. Our team and Mr. Zwätz discussed and discussed the details and the best possible implementation from a production point of view. In the end, a hunting and outdoor knife with Sandvik 14C28N steel (first edition) / now CPM S90V steel and elegantly shaped nickel silver bolsters was created. The flat tang construction has a flat-ground drop point blade that is almost ten centimeters long. The handle scales are made of traditional deer horn and the sheath is made of brown saddle leather.
The knife is delivered in a black wooden box and with a certificate.
